Fire, Ash, and Smoke explores the boundaries between creation and destruction in landscapes shaped by human hands. Documenting traditional coal-mining areas in northwestern Istanbul, the project brings to light a sense of continuity and fragility in spaces that bear the temporary yet lasting traces of fire and smoke.Here, space is conceived not merely as a production site, but as a dynamic interface where nature and human labor both clash and collaborate.Land transformed by fire, structures buried in ash, and voids woven by smoke lay bare, layer by layer, the processes through which production both transforms and consumes nature.While critically examining the ways in which production practices intervene in nature, this visual narrative also questions how spatial memory is shaped.Fire, Ash, and Smoke invites us to rethink the relationships between spatial justice, labor, and nature through the ephemeral landscapes created by the act of burning.
