The Rest

(2024- Ongoing)

The Rest reveals the wounds inflicted on nature’s surface in the wake of mega-scale construction projects. The fragile landscapes taking shape around the New Airport in northern Istanbul emerge as forgotten and unfinished areas left behind once construction is complete. These areas represent not only the silent loss of the natural landscape but also that of collective memory. The conflict between nature’s continuity and the disjointed, violent structuralism of human intervention leaves its mark on every void, every patch of land. The project interprets these “surplus lands”—left unfinished in the name of modernization and development—as a kind of space of silent resistance; it opens up a new realm of thought centered on spatial justice, ecological loss, and the loss of memory. Each square captures a silence that echoes between the suppressed voice of nature and the lasting traces of human intervention.
