Postcards from North

(2021- Ongoing)

This project examines the natural environment and vegetation in northern Istanbul in the context of urban sprawl and ecological transformation. The forested areas on the city’s outskirts, which are steadily shrinking, are turning into fragile ecosystems under pressure from the new airport, highways, and mega-projects. The photographs document the traces of a vanishing natural memory by revealing landscapes standing on the brink of this transformation. Nature’s silent surface presents a simultaneous map of both resilience and disappearance. While this project questions the relationship between space, nature, and memory in northern Istanbul, it reveals how ecological entities are rendered invisible in the processes of urban transformation.
